Texas State Library and Archives Commission
The TEXAS STORIES web site will feature images of documents, maps, manuscripts, photographs, paintings and other historical resources on the pages of its Listening Library. Many of these historical artifacts will be drawn from the collections of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, whose mission is to preserve and document the heritage and culture of the Lone Star State.
The Texas State Library also assists in making available and delivering library and information services to all Texans, including Texans with disabilities. Through its Talking Books Program, the Library provides free library service to Texans of all ages who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical or reading disabilities. Its Texas Reading Club encourages youth to read for pleasure and to promote library usage. The Texas State Library also loans historical artifacts to museums for the purpose of display and public education, and provides an array of information on its web site, including an Online Catalog of the State's collections and a series of Online Exhibits.
The Friends of Libraries and Archives of Texas, Inc. is partnering with TEXAS STORIES to help raise awareness for and promote the Texas State Library's collections and statewide library services by serving as the project's nonprofit sponsor. Learn more about The Friends.
